Morse et Marteaux BBQ Smokehouse & Lobster Shack at Smith & Main

Smoked meats, lobster suppers, and a licensed bar at the heart of the Lobster Capital.

On the corner of Smith and Main in downtown Shediac, there is a smokehouse that answers three different appetites at once. If you want to eat quickly and keep moving, walk up to the canteen window and order a lobster roll, a brisket sandwich, or a hard ice cream cone. If you want to sit down and let the afternoon stretch, take a seat under the covered outdoor patio and order the full lobster supper with a cold pint from the licensed bar. If you want both at once, the staff will not blink. The menu is the same whether you eat it standing up or sitting down.

The smoker out back is where most of the drama happens. Brisket that has spent fourteen hours learning patience. Pulled pork that falls apart when a fork looks at it sideways. Ribs with a bark dark enough to qualify as weather. These are Texas techniques applied to New Brunswick ingredients, by a kitchen that refuses to pretend either tradition needs an apology.

The lobster is, of course, lobster. Shediac has called itself the Lobster Capital of the World for long enough that the claim has become part of the municipal architecture. A lobster supper at Morse et Marteaux is the full kit: a whole lobster, drawn butter, rolls, potato salad, coleslaw, and the optional but recommended bib. The lobster roll, for those who want the essentials without the ceremony, is served warm with melted butter or cold with a light mayo dressing. Tell the counter which one you are.

The time has come, as a certain Walrus once said, to talk of many things. Over a brisket sandwich and a cold beer on a summer afternoon, in a town that invented its own statue to honour a crustacean, there is plenty to talk about.

We are open seven days a week in summer and on weekends through the winter. Come when the sun is high and stay until the patio lights come on. Bring a friend, or bring a book. Both are welcome.

Our Morse et Marteaux BBQ Smokehouses and Lobster Shacks is part of Shediac Wonderland, the family of story-driven businesses created by Sébastien Després and Heather Wright. Le Moque-Tortue (our board game bistro), Le Griffon (bed & breakfast), The Neptune (our Drive-In Theatre), Adorable Chocolat (our artisanal chocolaterie), Bazar Neptune (Saturday market), Witzend Tours & Adventures (tours, escape rooms, and concierge), and the Shediac Renaissance Faire: each one a chapter of a larger story about what happens when a community decides to take play seriously.

Morse et Marteaux BBQ is the chapter where the Walrus and the Carpenter finally agree on something: low, slow, and worth every minute of the wait.
